Messages from Paul

This week we’re thinking about the prayer of Moses, and how he mediated for the nation of Israel, just as Jesus has done the same for us. The difference is that Jesus’ mediation has eternal effect. The incident of the golden calf comes between two forty-day periods in the life of Moses, times during which he was alone with God. The first period caused the rebellion, and the second period atoned for it, although the people did not escape punishment for their unfaithfulness. Sin always has its consequences. What can we learn from the infidelity of Israel at this time? Wait and see!

Also, this Wednesday is Missionary Prayer at Alice’s (usual time of 8:00pm). Next month we’re having a visit from Denise Earthy, who regularly goes out to Gorakhpur in Northern India to support the team who run the Nurseries. Her visits are always a blessing, so do make plans to join us on that occasion if you possibly can.

For next week’s the Praise and Prayer session at 7:00pm we will be joined by Harold Cottingham, and some of the folk from Caterham Christian Centre. We’re hosting the monthly prayer evening for our communities this time, but something else is taking place at the Community Church on the Hill, hence the meeting here. It’s crucial to pray together, so please try to be with us.

The following Sunday (May 27) is Pentecost Sunday, and St Mary’s on the Hill are holding an ecumenical Pentecost Celebration at 6:00pm that evening, to which we are invited. It would be good to mark the Church’s birthday by being with other believers, so put this one in your diary too!

Kakamega Update

Andrew seriously ill and needs urgent surgery. Please pray for all aspects of this. Contact Joan if you are able to support in any way. (I am visiting Jenny and Mark at All Nation Christian College today). Thank you, Joan Hadlow

Noreen, Gerrie and Darrel Deas

We would like to thank all at Whyteleafe Free Church for your support on the loss of Gerald, a beloved husband and father. ‘What a difference a prayer makes!’ And God is good and faithful. Special thanks to Pastor Paul for his brilliant organ playing at the funeral service. Also thanks to Jenny for her special gift with flowers. And also to those for their various contributions.

On a beautiful day the service at Holy Saviours in Thornton Heath highlighted the blessed qualities of Gerald with over 130 people filling the church. It was a fitting tribute especially by one of his carers for over two years. He will be sorely missed, but is now with our Lord.

God Bless you all.

Work Party (note from Richard)

Next Saturday, May 19, there will be a work party from 9:00am to 12:30pm when we shall appreciate as many volunteers as possible.

In addition to spring cleaning the place there are many other jobs which we would like done if there are enough helpers, these include hedge cutting, tidying up the outside of the site, weeding the garden along the side of the church and forking in a few bags of top soil, moving a few pews in order to be able to fill in some cavity walls with expanding foam and getting up into the attic to check out some wood.

I have left a sheet of paper for you to sign up if you able to attend so I will have some idea of numbers.
