Messages from Paul

We’re moving on this week to Jesus’ teaching in chapter 5 of John’s gospel that He has life in Himself, just as His Father has life, and that he can therefore give of this life to all He chooses to give it. Just as we’ve been born spiritually, so we must continue to live spiritually, and so we must continue to come to the Son to receive the life of the Father. Just as Nicodemus could not understand the concept of spiritual birth, so the Jews to whom Jesus is talking now could not understand the concept of spiritual life. The nub of the issue was that there was not a willingness on their part to be taught. They thought they were okay because of their natural birth – i.e. as sons of Abraham, their traditional religion. Do we think we’re okay because of our traditional religion?
