Messages from Paul

Jenny, Sarah and I have been on a conference this weekend (finishing today), for which the organisers have invited a Christian leader by the name of Gbile (pronounced ‘Billy’!) Akanni from Nigeria to lead much of the ministry. The theme is ‘Transformed into His Likeness’. Charles and Joyce Sibthorpe have initiated the retreat, Charles being Colin Urquhart’s right-hand man when we were part of Kingdom Faith ministries in Horsham. Gbile, we’re told, has a passion for revival, and has seen great things happening in God both in Nigeria and abroad. So, we’re anticipating a bit more transformation in our lives as we drink in more of Word and Spirit for these few days.

I’m delighted that Derek Edmonds is able to come and share the word with you today. I’ve known Derek as long as I’ve been here, for, as the nearest Elim pastor, he supported me at my induction here in November of 1996. He has retired now from full-time pastoring, but still preaches regularly in this area, living as he does at Sanderstead. We hope to see more of Derek. He will continue our readings in John’s Gospel, drawing his theme this morning from our Lord’s teaching regarding Himself as the bread of life in chapter 6. Have a good morning!

Advance notice: Church Termly Meeting on Tuesday June 26, 6:30pm Supper, 8.00pm Meeting.

Kakamega message from Joan Hadlow

Dear All, just had a text from Lucy and Andrew. They are at the Agha Khan Hospital Nairobi. Just to inform you that we’ve come from the Doctors room and he says the operation is very risky so still consulting other Doctors, will come back on Monday. Please pray more than ever. Will keep you informed.

Also:

Next RUSH dinner is Saturday July 14 at 7pm for 7:30pm. Ensemble will sing, Phoebe will play and Grannie will have a sale, may even be a cake sale. All welcome, suggested donation: £8.

See Joan Hadlow for tickets, half gone already or leave message on phone. Anyone who wants to help will be very welcome. Proceeds this time will be to education and maybe medical if necessary. Thanks, Joan

Missionary Prayer and Richard and Gill’s home group (from Paul)

Missionary Prayer: We are being visited by Denise Earthy, who lives in the Croydon area, but regularly goes out to our friends at the Gorakphur Nurseries in Northern India, and will be sharing her experiences first-hand from her latest visit. Denise is an excellent communicator and is always worth hearing. She tells it as it is! The usual Wednesday group which meets at Rick’s is invited to join us, because he and Gill are still away, and it’s an excellent opportunity to do hear from one of our long-term mission contacts. You are all invited! Because we will almost certainly have a few more folk than usual, we will host the meeting at our house, 216, Croydon Road. See you then!
