Message from Paul

The new commandment of Jesus issues from the washing of the disciples’ feet as recounted by John earlier in chapter 13 of his gospel. Above all else, Jesus wants them to remember this ‘new’ directive, for it will be at the heart of the New Covenant Church. It gets somewhat swamped as the disciples ply Him with questions about where it is that He is going, but the whole discourse at the Last Supper, which has its climax in our Lord’s High Priestly prayer, is given to them to emphasise this commandment, and how it can be kept. Jesus has to go in order to ask the Father to send to them the Holy Spirit, and only He, through them, can do the work. This Church, when it starts, is going to be Spirit-filled and Spirit-led, for He is the Spirit of truth. Paul prays for the same Holy Spirit to fill the believers at Ephesus, and from that prayer we see a visionary church emerging, with the glorious presence of God as its distinctive hallmark. May that same glorious presence be the hallmark of the church of Jesus in our day, for it is to be there ‘throughout all generations’.(Ephesians 3:14-21)

Working Party

From Richard: this is on Saturday July 21 from 9:00am until 1:00pm or for how ever long you can make it. Once again the church grounds are in need of some attention so there will be another Church Working party to tidy up and sort out a few other areas which could do with some looking after. If you are able to come please let Richard know so he has some idea of how many jobs we will be able to complete.
