Message from Paul
This week we’re thinking about the key principle in the way that God deals with us as people who continue to struggle with sin. As we know, he is holy, and cannot fellowship with anything of a sinful or unclean nature. He cannot therefore fellowship with me in my natural, unforgiven condition. The way around this for His people of old was the offering of blood sacrifice, the innocent creature taking the place of the guilty person. The wages of sin is death, and that was equally true for the Israelite as for us today. But, if I am repentant of my sin, and offer an acceptable sacrifice to God, He will forgive me. God gave the blood of ‘clean’ creatures to the Israelites to secure that forgiveness and be the means of His continuing fellowship with them through the desert wanderings, and now He gives to us the blood of His Son, the Lord Jesus, to continually wash and cleanse us as His forgiven people. Let’s have this thought in mind as we share in Holy Communion today – ‘If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness’ (1 John 1:9). I must not live in denial of my condition, for the text goes on to say, ‘if we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His word has no place in our hearts’. That’s strong stuff! Let’s confess our sin, and have it removed by the blood of Jesus!
Our communion offering this week will be part of our harvest giving to bless the ministry of Daryl and Maureen Carrott. Let’s make it as big a blessing as we possibly can!
