Messages from Paul
Today we’re considering the call on God’s people of old to be holy. True, none could keep the law in its every detail, but a safety net was provided for them by the sacrificial system, whereby atonement could be made and sin forgiven (of the unintentional variety). The reason for the call to holiness was that God wanted a people for Himself who could serve and worship Him, and in whom He could take pleasure. The people could never be holy in the absolute sense that He was (and is), but they could have a heart to obey and please Him, and, then as now, God looks on the heart. Is it therefore any different for us as New Covenant followers of Jesus. Has the revelation of grace given to us somehow diminished the law, and made it of less significance? Are we free of its many do’s and don’ts (some of them seemingly very nit-picking)? Hopefully, we’ll get a little nearer to what God requires as we open up His word this morning!
Advance notice: Next termly Church Meeting: Tuesday 13 November 2007. As usual, supper for those who would like it at 6:30pm, meeting 8:00pm until 9:30pm latest.
Today is our farewell day for Rohit, Vedo and Hursh. Farewells are always somewhat sad, but we draw some comfort from the fact that they are moving on so positively to a better job (permanent employment), a better climate (New Zealand – ’nuff said), and better weekends (less shift-work). If anything else is better remains to be seen. We know the Lord has gone before them, and we’ll therefore give them as big a blessing as we can for this next phase of their pilgrimage.
Next RUSH meal
This is on Saturday November 17 at 7pm for 7:30pm. Ensemble will sing and we hope Phoebe will play her violin. Tickets already going well. Contact Joan Hadlow to book a table/ticket now…
