Anniversary
This weekend we celebrate Paul and Jenny’s 11th anniversary of being with us as our Pastor and wife. We thank them for all they do for us here and pray God’s blessing on them for the days ahead. To celebrate we have cake (though not homemade!) to go with our coffee or tea after the service, so do stop and join with us.
Messages from Paul
Today we climax in our series in Leviticus with a look at the wonderful year of Jubilee – just what that meant for the Israelites of old, and what it can mean for us today. Hopefully, you’re just about through reading the Book, and my prayer is that you’ve found it stimulating. I certainly have. I was a bit daunted by the thought of doing a preaching series through it, but I’ve cried to the Lord every Saturday night, and you’ve listened to the outcome of that on Sunday mornings. I’ve never preached through Leviticus before – all the more reason to have done it now! One of the heart pleas of the writer to Hebrews (which New Testament letter we’re now about to tackle) is that his readers don’t become becalmed, but continue to move forward in the life of faith. We’re his readers now, so let’s hear the Holy Spirit as we go, and apply His teaching to our own lives and situation. You will find our journey through Leviticus to have been excellent preparation.
The first hand-out covering Hebrews chapters 1-3 is available this morning, and, God willing, I’ll start on it next week. We should finish it around new year time. There’s also a note of the preaching topics there, if you want to tie that in with weekly group sessions. Our God will bless the reading of His word!
Weekly programme is as usual, except:
Jim Edie from Love Russia is visiting Cedar Group this Monday to share about the work he’s involved in, and to encourage all the team as they’re planning to stage one of the Love Russia productions as a Christmas play on December 15. They played The Russian Shoemaker last January, and it was excellent, so we’re very much looking forward to a pre-Christmas performance this year. Do pray for them as they work towards this, beginning with Jim’s visit.
We meet as a Council on Tuesday, part of our focus being the Church Termly meeting the week after (Tuesday November 13), so please do your utmost to be with us then. We want you, and need you, to be a part of the vision the Lord is giving us, and one of the best ways of being involved is to come to the termly meeting (three times yearly). It gives opportunity for fellowship and feedback. Take it! Shared supper, 6:30pm, for meeting at 8:00pm. Bring food or not, there’s always enough! Agendas available next Sunday. (The next meeting will be the AGM in February.)
